MeitY Unveils India AI Governance Guidelines to Promote Safe and Responsible AI Adoption

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) today unveiled the India AI Governance Guidelines in New Delhi. These guidelines are a comprehensive framework to ensure safe, inclusive, and responsible AI adoption across various sectors. The guidelines were unveiled by Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, in the presence of MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Sood said that the guiding principle that defines the spirit of the framework is simple, Do No Harm. He added that India focuses on creating sandboxes for innovation and on ensuring risk mitigation within a flexible, adaptive system. He also said that the India AI Mission will enable this ecosystem and inspire many nations.

The guidelines propose a robust governance framework to foster cutting-edge innovation and safely develop and deploy AI. The launch also marks a key milestone ahead of the India-AI Impact Summit in 2026, as India strengthens its leadership in responsible AI governance.

Our correspondent reports that winners of the IndiaAI Hackathon for Mineral Targeting were also announced in the event. This hackathon was organised under the Applications Development Pillar of the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with the Geological Survey of India, under the Ministry of Mines. The hackathon aimed to leverage AI and Machine Learning to advance mineral prognostication by analysing geological, geophysical, geochemical, and remote-sensing data.
