In Maharashtra, Akola recorded a scorching maximum temperature of 46.9 degree Celsius today, among the highest of the season, as temperatures across most districts of the Vidarbha region crossed the 40 degree Celsius mark.
The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange alert for severe heatwave conditions in Akola, Amravati and Wardha till tomorrow, urging people to remain cautious and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. A Yellow Alert has also been sounded for Nagpur, Buldhana and Chandrapur for tomorrow.
The intense heatwave is expected to persist across the region till 29 April. Other recorded temperatures include 46.8°C in Amravati, 46.4 degree Celsius in Wardha, 46 degree Celsius in Yavatmal and 45 degree Celsius in Chandrapur, while Nagpur recorded 45.4 degree Celsius.
