Maharashtra govt renames Divyang Welfare Department as Divyang Empowerment Department

The Maharashtra government has renamed the Divyang Welfare Department as Divyang Empowerment Department, marking a shift from welfare to empowerment.

A recent Government Resolution stated that the department has also been restructured. The office of the Commissioner of Divyang Welfare will now be called the Office of Divyang Empowerment. The district level will have a Divyang Empowerment Office-DEO. Mumbai city and suburbs will head the office at the district level. In the rest of the state, the chief electoral officer of the Zilla Parishad will head the DEO. At the Mantralaya level, 67 posts have been approved, and 1,402 posts for the rest of the state.
