The Maharashtra government today announced Artificial Intelligence Policy 2026, aimed at boosting investment, innovation and employment in the state. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai. Under the policy, the state expects investments exceeding ₹10,000 crore and the creation of over 1.5 lakh jobs. The cabinet also approved the establishment of six AI centres of excellence across Maharashtra and the development of five AI innovation cities to promote research and industry collaboration.
In another key decision, the cabinet approved the establishment of a chair in the name of Dr B R Ambedkar at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science. The government also announced an ambitious plantation drive of 300 crore saplings and the formation of a Green Maharashtra Commission to strengthen environmental initiatives.
The cabinet also cleared a proposal to provide scholarships to differently-abled students pursuing education after higher secondary. The scheme will cover expenses such as admission fees, tuition fees, registration charges, and other institutional costs, including library and medical examination fees.
