Lok Sabha schedules to take up resolution seeking removal of Speaker Om Birla on Monday

The Lok Sabha is scheduled to take up a resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla on Monday. The second leg of the Budget Session will begin on the 9th of March.

During the first leg of the Budget Session last month, the opposition had submitted a no-confidence notice to the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha seeking the removal of the Speaker, accusing him of acting in a partisan manner. It was signed by 118 MPs, including Members from Congress, the Samajwadi Party, DMK, the Left and others.

The notice will be moved by three Congress members, Mohamed Jawed, K Suresh and Mallu Ravi. If the motion is taken up, Mr Birla will not preside over the proceedings. Instead, he will sit among members while the House debates the resolution.

Meanwhile, the BJP and the Congress today issued a three-line whip to their Lok Sabha MPs, directing them to be present in the House from 9th to 10th March.
