The Lok Sabha today paid respect to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and five of its former members, Shalini Patil, Bhanu Prakash Mirdha, Satyendra Nath Brohmo Chaudhury, Suresh Kalmadi and Kabindra Purkayastha, who passed away recently. Mr Pawar was a member of the 10th Lok Sabha. The House observed silence for the departed souls.
As soon as the House met after the President’s address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the Secretary General of the Lower House laid a copy of the President’s address. Later, the House was adjourned for the day.
In the Rajya Sabha, when the House met after the President’s Address, the Secretary General laid a copy of the address. The House paid tributes to two of its former Members, L. Ganesan and Suresh Kalmadi, who passed away recently. It also paid tributes to the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia.
Chairman C P Radhakrishnan said, Begum Khaleda Zia made important contributions to the development of Bangladesh and to India-Bangladesh bilateral relations. Later, the Upper House was adjourned for the day.
