Restrictions Continue in Leh for Fourth Day After September 24 Violence

Restrictions remained in force in Leh continuously for the fourth day today after the violent incident happened on the 24th of this month. The paramilitary forces intensified patrolling and checking following the detention of the Climate activist Sonam Wanchuck under the National Security ACT (NSA) on Friday. 
 
 
On the Fourth day after the violence hit Leh Town, restrictions under Section 163 of Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, continued today. There was no untoward incident reported from anywhere in Ladakh during the past 24 hours. The restrictions are in place to maintain law and order and to restore Peace in the region.
 
 
To ensure access to essential goods and services, authorities today gave permission to open the Grocery and Vegetable Shops in Leh for two hours.
 
 
During a Press Conference today, Director General of Police, Ladakh, Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal said that ” What happened on 24th of this month is unprecedented in the history of Ladakh and deliberate attempts were made to create the atmosphere of violence and sabotage the dialogue process. DGP said that Ladakh Police is here for the security of the People 24×7 and urged the youth to get involved in the process of nation-building.
 
 
Meanwhile Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the law and order and overall security situation in Ladakh. 
 
 
Chief Executive Councilor, Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Tashi Gyalson,  today announced Rs. 10 Lakh Compensation to the next of Kin who had lost their lives during the Ladakh Protests and Rs. 3 Lakh for the critically injured and Rs. 1 Lakh for the minor injured.
