Last rites of singer Zubeen Garg to be performed at Sonapur, Assam today

The last rites of Assam’s heartthrob Zubeen Garg will be performed at Sonapur, the outskirts of Guwahati, this afternoon. Over a million people have paid tribute to the iconic artists and humanists till now. People from across the Northeastern states are paying their last respects to the legendary singer at Arjun Bhogeswar Baruh Sports Complex in Guwahati.
 
 
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the second postmortem of Zubeen Garg’s body will be carried out at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital today, following demand from a section of people. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will attend the ceremony on behalf of the central government, along with representatives from various state governments. The music icon, Zubeen Garg, died in Singapore last Friday after a drowning accident.
 
 
He travelled to Singapore to attend the North East Festival, where he was scheduled to perform. Zubeen Garg came to the limelight in Bollywood with the song “Ya Ali” from the 2006 film Gangster. Zubeen was a versatile singer and recorded more than 38,000 songs in 40 languages. His first album was “Anamika”, which was released in 1992. For the northeastern states, he was revered not just as a singer, lyricist, musician, film-maker and actor but also as a cultural force and philanthropist.
