Karnataka celebrates 77th Republic Day with patriotic fervour & cultural extravaganza

The 77th Republic Day celebrations were held in Karnataka with patriotic fervour and cultural extravaganza. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot unfurled the national flag in Bengaluru and delivered the Republic Day speech. Speaking about the importance of the day, the Governor noted it is the day on which the Constitution of a new India was brought into force, proclaiming that all are equal in matters of social, economic and political justice, by discarding discriminatory colonial and archaic laws. He said that we must not, under any circumstances, be content with political democracy alone. We must make our political democracy a social democracy.

The Manekshaw ground in Bengaluru wore a festive look today with festoons, flower decorations and buntings. The pandals were hued with the tricolour of our national flag, that is saffron, white and green. In his address, the Governor listed the achievements of the State Government. More than 1,000 participants from 30 contingents, including teams from the Indian Army, Air Force, CRPF, NCC, Seva Dal, Scouts and Guides, and various schools, take part in the march past, along with seven band troupes. Around 1,400 students performed in the cultural activities during the celebrations. The bakery items made by Bengaluru Central Jail inmates were served at Manekshaw Parade Ground today.
