In Uttarakhand, the Kanwar Mela during the month of Shravan in Haridwar has reached its final stage. So far more than 2.5 crore Kanwariyas have collected Gangajal from Haridwar and left for their destination. Meanwhile, a large number of “Dak Kanwariyas” are arriving in Haridwar in vehicles equipped with sound systems. The temporary parking at Bairagi Camp has already filled up with Kanwariyas’ vehicles. In view of the heavy influx of Dak Kanwariyas, the administration is on high alert.
The Dak Kanwar is a tradition in which devotees, leave for their Shivalaya directly without stopping after filling Gangajal. Some go on foot, while others travel by vehicles carrying Gangajal. While crowds of Dak Kanwariyas can be seen on bikes and larger vehicles, devotees traveling on foot have also picked up their pace. These days in Haridwar, devotional songs playing on DJs and groups of Kanwariyas create a vibrant blend of devotion and energy.
Meanwhile, the administration has appealed to Kanwariyas to maintain discipline along with religious faith. Looking at the way Kanwadias are arriving, it is expected that a large number of Kanwadias will reach the pilgrimage town in the coming days. This time the number of Kanwadias is estimated to reach above six crores.
