J&K Govt rolls out phase 2 of Vibrant Villages Programme to develop 124 strategic border villages

In Jammu and Kashmir, the government has prepared a comprehensive roadmap for the focused development of 124 strategic villages across 43 border blocks in eight districts under the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme. The programme covers the border districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch districts in the Jammu division and Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara districts in north Kashmir.

A comprehensive gap analysis has been conducted across one thousand and 421 border villages to achieve saturation in four critical areas, including all-weather road connectivity, telecom connectivity, on-grid electrification, and television connectivity. While one thousand and 378 villages have already been connected with road infrastructure, 30 strategic villages have been proposed for connectivity under  Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

For telecom connectivity, the BSNL has expedited 4G saturation surveys, with 98 of the selected vibrant villages currently covered and plans are underway to extend services to the remaining areas. In the electrification coverage, the districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua have achieved 100 per cent coverage. To bridge the information and communication gap, focused efforts are being made to provide DTH facilities to households with television sets, especially in the border blocks of Baramulla and Kupwara.
