In Jammu and Kashmir, the search and rescue operations will continue for the eighth straight day today in the cloudburst-hit Chisoti village of Kishtwar. The death toll has climbed to 65, including three CISF personnel and a SPO of J&K Police.
According to the authorities, over 100 people were injured and 70 remain missing. Rescue teams, comprising the Army, NDRF, SDRF, CISF, BRO, Police, and locals, are combing the 22 km stretch of the stream from Chisoti to Gulabgarh, using heavy machinery, sniffer dogs, and controlled blasts to clear massive boulders.
Meanwhile, the bridge, built by the Engineer troops of the Army, has bolstered relief and rescue operations. Principal Secretary (Home) Chandraker Bharti visited the site yesterday and assessed the ground situation, interacted with locals, and later chaired a joint review meeting in Kishtwar, stressing a swift and coordinated response.
