Jammu and Kashmir to administer polio drops to over 19 lakh children on December 21

In Jammu and Kashmir, over 19 lakh children from 0 to 5 years of age would be administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) on National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio Campaign) 2025 on December 21, followed by house-to-house activities on 22 and 23 December to ensure that no child is missed.

Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization J&K, Dr Poonam Sethi, said that a total of 19 lakh 85 thousand and 736 children (0-5 years) are targeted across J&K for immunization against Polio. For successful implementation, 10 thousand 993 booths and 248 transit points have been established across the UT. Besides, 518 mobile teams have also been deployed to conduct the drive.

A media sensitisation meeting regarding the upcoming National Immunization Day was held at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, on Tuesday to mobilise media support and ensure widespread public awareness.

The media fraternity was appealed to disseminate the message extensively so that every eligible child receives two drops of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) and the goal of a polio-free J&K is sustained. State Immunization Officer, Dr Shahid Hussain, assured availability of OPV and cold chain systems are fully functional and strictly monitored to maintain vaccine potency throughout the campaign. The Family Welfare MCH & Immunization Department reiterated its commitment to protecting every child from polio and sought continued cooperation from the media to make NID 2025 a resounding success.
