The death toll in the landslide that struck Indonesia’s Java province on Thursday has reached 11. The spokesperson of Indonesia’s disaster management agency Abdul Muhar said, 12 others are still missing. The landslide hit dozens of houses spread across three villages in the Cilacap district, following several days of intense rainfall.
Rescue team are searching for those who are still missing but the victims are believed to be buried three to eight metres deep, making the operation more challenging.
Indonesia’s weather agency says the wet season started in September and will last until April, bringing a higher risk of floods and extreme rainfall.
