Indo-Lanka Handicraft and Cultural Festival 2025 opens in Colombo

The Indo-Lanka Handicraft and Cultural Festival 2025 was inaugurated at Havelock City Mall in Colombo today by the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti, and Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Chaturanga Abeysinghe graced the event.

Jointly organised by Sri Lanka’s National Crafts Council and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, the four-day event celebrates the shared artistic legacy of both nations. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, High Commissioner Jha said the festival embodies “a living dialogue between tradition and innovation,” highlighting the role of crafts in connecting communities. The event features over 20 master artisans from India showcasing Ajrakh block prints, Bhujodi weaves, Tie & Dye, Kashmiri shawls, and SEWA women-led crafts, alongside Sri Lankan batik, leatherwork, and gemstone artistry.

Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe appreciated India’s influence on local craftsmanship and sought support to protect artisans and their heritage. The festival runs from November 13 to 16, promoting cultural diplomacy and artisan livelihoods.
