Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar today said that India’s telecom sector has witnessed transformative growth over the past decade, driven by strong government-industry synergy. Addressing the COAI DIGICOM Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Dr Pemmasani said technologies like 6G, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum will shape the next phase of digital transformation and emphasised the need for close collaboration between government and industry.
The Minister highlighted that the sector’s gross revenue rose to 3.72 lakh crore rupees in FY25, supported by strong reforms and rising foreign investment. He said BharatNet, the world’s largest rural broadband programme, aims to connect over 2.6 lakh Gram Panchayats. Dr Pemmasani noted that India completed one of the fastest 5G rollouts with over 5.1 lakh base stations and more than 400 million users.
He added that measures such as Sanchar Saathi and Chakshu are strengthening protection against spam and financial fraud. He emphasised that India’s telecom future will be driven by stronger research and development and called upon the industry to increase investment to realise the Bharat 6G vision.
