India’s campaign is over as quickly as it began, after they went down 1-4 in their tie against Denmark in the team’s opening Group D match in the BWF Sudirman Cup Finals today at Xiamen, China.
Placed alongside Indonesia and England in a tough group, India needed a strong start to keep their qualification hopes alive, but failed to deliver.
Denmark, playing without their top singles players Viktor Axelsen and Mia Blichfeldt, still proved too strong as India’s star shuttlers Prannoy and Sindhu lost their respective matches in straight games.
India’s only win of the tie came in the women’s doubles match, where Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra scored a straight games win against Alexandra Boje and Natasja Anthonisen. The duo won 21-13, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila went down in straight games against Jesper Toft and Amalie Magalund 13-21, 14-21.
In men’s doubles, Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen were too good for Hariharan Amsakuranan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi, thrashing them 21-7, 21-4.
