India’s power transmission network crosses 5 lakh circuit km

India’s national power transmission network has crossed 5 lakh circuit kilometres, ckm, of transmission lines along with one thousand 407 gigavolt amperes (GVA) of transformation capacity. The Ministry of Power said that since 2014, the country’s transmission network has grown by 71.6 per cent with the addition of 2.09 lakh ckm of transmission lines, boosting transformation capacity by 876 GVA. The ministry said the inter-regional power transfer capacity now stands at one lakh 20 thousand 340 megawatts.

As per the Ministry, it has enabled seamless transfer of electricity across regions, successfully realising the vision of One Nation – One Grid – One Frequency. The milestone reflects the government’s sustained efforts towards ensuring a reliable, affordable, and secure electricity supply across the country while supporting rapid growth in renewable energy integration.
