Indian Railways has achieved over 99 per cent electrification of the Broad Gauge Network, and it is near to achieving full electrification. In a written reply to a Question in the Lok Sabha today, Railways Minister Ashvini Vaishnaw said that in terms of Railway Electrification, India is far ahead of UK, where the electrification is 39 per cent, Russia at 52 per cent and China at 82 per cent.
He also informed that the hundred per cent electrification has been achieved across 14 Railway Zones and 25 States and UTs. The Minister said that, electrification of the railway network on Indian Railways has been taken up in mission mode. Mr Vaishnaw informed that the electrification was carried out at around 21 thousand route Kilometres at the Broad Gauge Network before 2014, while today, around 47 thousand route kilometres have been electrified.
