Indian farmers have transformed the nation through hard work: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has said that the farmers of India, through their hard work and dedication, have transformed both the direction and condition of the country.
 
 
Addressing a Kisan Mela at Kumhari in Durg district of Chhattisgarh, the Union Agriculture Minister said that in order to increase farmers’ income, agriculture must be made a profitable enterprise. For this, along with traditional farming practices, farmers need to adopt new technologies, improved seeds, and the cultivation of fruits, flowers, vegetables and medicinal crops. He added that the Central and State Governments will jointly take all possible steps to make farming more profitable for farmers.
 
 
Expressing concern over the problem of spurious fertilisers and seeds, Mr. Chouhan said that a Seed Act will be introduced in the upcoming session of Parliament to ensure strict action against those supplying substandard seeds. He also informed that a Pesticide Act will be brought in on similar lines. The Minister assured that the government will extend full support to research and innovation in the agriculture sector.
 
 
At the function, young progressive farmers who have made significant contributions to the field of agriculture were felicitated.
