The 77th Republic Day was celebrated at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu today with the participation of members of the Indian community. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Charge d’Affaires, Dr Rakesh Pandey. On the occasion, a video of President Droupadi Murmu’s address on the eve of the Republic Day was screened.
Dr Pandey also honoured the widows and next of kin of deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and handed over Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF) cheques amounting to a total of 7.2 crore Nepalese Rupees.
Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahaya Yadav, attended the noon programme as the Chief Guest. Ministers Om Prakash Aryal, Shradha Shrestha, Anil Sinha and other dignitaries were also present. A video highlighting significant progress in India-Nepal relations over the past year was screened during the event.
Vibrant dance and musical performances by students and teachers from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the Embassy, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kathmandu, and a Bihu dance presentation by an ICCR troupe marked the celebrations.
