India Sends 700 Tonnes of Relief to Sri Lanka Under Operation Sagar Bandhu

Seven hundred metric tonnes of emergency relief supplies arrived today at Trincomalee onboard INS Gharial, strengthening India’s humanitarian outreach to Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. The relief material is part of 1000 tonnes that has been sent by Tamil Nadu. Yesterday, relief supplies of 300 tonnes on board three Indian Navy ships were handed over to Sri Lanka.

The latest consignment was unloaded at the port of Trincomalee for rapid distribution to cyclone and flood-hit districts. With the arrival of this shipment, the total volume of Indian relief assistance now stands at 1,058 metric tonnes, including 58 tonnes sent earlier.

Sri Lanka continues to grapple with the aftermath of last week’s cyclonic storm and subsequent flooding and landslides. The death toll has risen to 635, while thousands of families remain displaced, and critical infrastructure has suffered extensive damage.
