Today is Himachal Day. The state-level celebration will be held at the district headquarters of Kinnaur, Reckong Peo, where Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will hoist the national flag and take the salute at the parade. District-level functions are also being organised across the state.
On 15th April, 1948, Himachal Pradesh was formed by merging 30 small and big princely states. This day reminds us of that historic beginning when scattered hill states were brought together into a single administrative unit. Initially, Himachal was given the status of a Chief Commissioner’s Province. Later, in 1950, it became a Part C State, and in 1956, it was made a Union Territory.
Himachal Pradesh is renowned for its natural beauty, rich culture, simple lifestyle, and valour. This is why it is popularly known as “Dev Bhoomi” (Land of Gods) and “Veer Bhoomi” (Land of the Brave). On the auspicious occasion of Himachal Day, at 11 AM, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will inaugurate the state-level function by hoisting the flag and will inspect the parade and take the salute during the march past.
Meanwhile, at the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri will attend the district-level function as the chief guest. Similar district-level functions will also be organised at other district headquarters.
