Heavy Rains Lash Puducherry, Trigger Waterlogging and Disrupt Daily Life

Heavy northeast monsoon rains that lashed Puducherry over the past two days have caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas, disrupting normal life. Residents in parts of the city and adjoining rural areas were affected as rainwater entered houses and flooded roads, making traffic movement difficult.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy visited several rain-affected areas, including Indira Gandhi Signal, Rainbow Nagar, Krishnanagar, Thengaithittu, and Urulaiyanpet constituencies, to assess the situation. He directed officials of the Public Works Department and Commune Panchayats to pump out stagnant water and ensure proper drainage.

Giving some respite to residents, rainfall activity eased during the day today. Schools and colleges remained closed, as the government had declared a holiday as a precautionary measure.
