Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu; Cold Wave in North & Central India; Delhi Air Quality Hits Severe Levels

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today. It said that Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions will prevail over Madhya Pradesh.
 
 
It added that cold wave conditions will also be over South Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Chandigarh and East Rajasthan till the 15th of this month. The weather agency has forecast a fall in minimum temperature by 2 to 3 degree Celsius over the Northeastern part of the country during the next 2 to 3 days.
       
 
Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to be in the severe category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of the region was recorded at 413 as of 7 am today.  In the Anand Vihar region, the AQI is 438, in the South West district, RK Puram’s AQI is 431 and in East Delhi, Patparganj’s AQI is 436.
 
 
The Commission for Air Quality Management today imposed Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi and adjoining areas. Under this, schools up to Class 5 have been directed to shift in hybrid mode.
 
 
The CAQM has also ordered a ban on private BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles. Along with this, non-essential construction and demolition activities, as well as on stone crushers and mining operations.
