Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh today said that the handicrafts industry accounts for exports worth around 50 thousand crore rupees, and is expected to grow 1 lakh crore rupees soon. Mr Singh said this while inaugurating the third edition of Crafted for the Future event in New Delhi. He said that the youth today understand the traditional craft and are presenting contemporary products that are relevant to global audiences. The Minister added that the Government has partnered with 100 artisans under the Hub and Scope model to export handicraft products across the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Staff at the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, Radhika Kaul Batra, highlighted the exceptional talent of the artisans whose skills were showcased at the event. She emphasised that UNESCO is making sustained efforts to promote India’s rich cultural heritage at the global level.
The Crafted for the Future event is an initiative of DC Handicrafts under the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles. The 10-day event, being held at the National Crafts Museum in New Delhi, offers a range of experiences led by artisans, designers and practitioners across embroidery, wool, ceramics, food, jewellery and wellness, introducing participants to traditional techniques and contemporary interpretations of craft.
