Govt plans AI-based traffic management on National Highways

The Government envisages deployment of Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) with the objective of improving road safety and reducing accidents on National Highways (NH). Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari informed this in a written Reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today. Mr Gadkari said that this system includes AI-based Video Incident Detection and Enforcement Systems, Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, Pan to Zoom cameras and surveillance cameras for electronic monitoring, enforcement, early detection of incidents and real-time field response. The Ministry has issued guidelines for regular safety audit of all National Highways (NHs) at design, construction, pre-opening stage of National Highways projects as well as on existing NHs for ensuring road safety.
