Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has said that over seven crore small and medium enterprises have been registered on the Udyam portal so far, providing employment to about 31 crore people across the country. Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha today, Mr Manjhi said the Udyam portal was launched in 2020 to help individuals set up medium, small and micro enterprises.
He informed the House that the Ministry has so far helped more than ten lakh people by providing grants and also given loans to more than one crore people to set up small enterprises. The Minister said, through this initiative, the government is helping them to come out of the poverty line. He said, 12 lakh artisans have benefited from the Vishwakarma Scheme, and the government has set a target to provide benefits to approximately 30 lakh artisan families by the end of 2028.
