Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia today rejected the opposition’s allegations of snooping, saying that snooping is neither possible nor will happen with the Sanchar Saathi App. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Scindia clarified that users can activate the app by registering at their convenience to access its benefits, and they may deactivate or delete it from their devices at any time. He said, the Narendra Modi government has provided this facility to protect the citizens from fraudulent activities.
The Minister said there are one billion Mobile users in the country and Sanchar Saathi Portal was launched in 2023 and its App was introduced in 2025 with the intention of securing the users from cyber frauds. Highlighting the features of this facility, Mr Scindia said overwhelming response has been received from the citizens of the country as twenty crore hits were recorded over the Sanchar Saathi Portal while 1.5 crore people have downloaded the App.
Mr Scindia informed that on the basis of this portal and App 1.5 crore fraudulent mobile phone connections have been disconnected, while 26 lakhs stolen mobile handsets were traced out which 7 lakh return to their owners. Sanchar Saathi is both an app and a portal that enables citizens to secure themselves through transparent, easy-to-use tools. Sanchar Saathi allows users to report suspected fraud directly from call logs, enabling informed citizens to actively protect less-aware users.
