Government expands postal network with 10 thousand 170 post offices over last 11 years

The Government today said that it has expanded the postal network in the country with 10 thousand 170 post offices in the last 11 years. 
 
Replying to supplementaries in Lok Sabha during Question Hour, Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said, India Post system is the largest postal system in the world and there are one lakh 64 thousand post offices across the country.
 
He said, around 2.78 lakh Gramin Dak Sevak are working day and night to deliver services. 
 
The Minister said, in the last eleven years, the Government has strengthened the India Post system. He said, four thousand 903 new post offices were constructed in the left-wing extremism-affected areas in the last 3.5 years. 
 
Mr Scindia said, five thousand 746 new post offices have been sanctioned in unbanked villages and out of which five thousand 657 have been opened.
