Government debunks fake video on new Labour Codes circulating on social media

The Government has debunked a video circulating on social media claiming that under the new labour codes, factory owners will force workers to stay for 12 hours but will pay them only for 8 hours. The video also claimed that now the factories will decide the rest periods of the workers. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) informed that both claims are fake.

The Unit added that under the new labour codes, workers must be paid double for overtime work, and the consent of the worker is mandatory for overtime. PIB also highlighted that the authority to determine rest periods and spread over for factory workers lies with the relevant government and not with the factory owners. Furthermore, the government has urged citizens to rely only on official sources for authentic information.
