Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today inaugurated the World Ocean Science Congress 2026 at Dona Paula. The Science Congress, themed ‘Ocean Health and Sustainable Future, focuses on ocean health, climate resilience, marine ecosystems and a sustainable Blue Economy.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sawant said that with nearly 25 per cent of the country’s population living in coastal regions, in this context, such discussions are vital for fisheries, tourism, the maritime economy and coastal resilience. He stressed the need to strengthen research with the help of institutions like the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography and the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research.
The Chief Minister said that, guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is blending its maritime heritage with modern innovation to deliver practical solutions for oceans.
