Gangotri Dham Closed for Winter Today on Annakut Festival; Idol of Goddess Ganga Moved to Mukhba

In Uttarakhand, the doors of Gangotri Dham, located in Uttarkashi district, were traditionally closed today on the occasion of Annakut festival for the winter season. A large number of devotees were present on this occasion.

On the occasion of the closure of Gangotri Dham’s doors, the temple was beautifully decorated with flowers. After the closure, the ceremonial idol of Goddess Ganga, in a festive palanquin, began its journey to its winter abode in Mukhba village, accompanied by a military band and local musical instruments. The palanquin will halt tonight at the Markandeya temple.

Tomorrow, the idol of Goddess Ganga will be enshrined in the Ganga temple in Mukhba village, where devotees can offer prayers during the winter season. This year, over 14 Lakhs pilgrims have visited Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham during this season. Meanwhile, the doors of Yamunotri and Kedarnath Dham will also be closed tomorrow on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj. Sakshi Singh, Akashvani News, Dehradun.
