In Maharashtra, Superintendent of Police M. Naresh today said that Gadchiroli district has become Naxalite-free following the arrest of eight Naxalites and the surrender of five others under the anti-Naxalite drive named “Operation Antim Prahar”.
Briefing media persons, Mr Naresh said the arrested Naxalites were carrying a collective bounty of 64 lakh rupees. During the operation, police also seized cash worth 65 lakh rupees along with ammunition from them. He said five Naxalites, including members of divisional committees, surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police. The surrendered cadres carried a combined bounty of 38 lakh rupees.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh clarified that although Gadchiroli has become free from active Naxalite presence, the Naxal ideology has not ended completely. He said the police will continue strict vigil along the borders to prevent the entry of Naxalites into Gadchiroli district from neighbouring states.
