Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader Kabindra Purkayastha passes away at 94

Former Union Minister of State and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kabindra Purkayastha passed away at the age of 94 this afternoon at Silchar. Kabindra Purkayastha was one of the founding members of the BJP.
 
Kabindra Purkayastha was born on 15th December 1931, at Kamarkhal in the then Sylhet district, which is presently part of Bangladesh. His life was deeply rooted in the functioning of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which he joined in 1951. Over the years, he held various organisational roles and played a crucial part in spreading RSS ideology across the Northeast.
 
Kabindra Purkayastha was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991 from the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency. He was re-elected in 1998 and served as the Minister of State for Telecommunications in the government of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from 1998 to 1999.
