The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today conducted fresh searches against former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and some others as part of a money laundering investigation into an alleged teachers recruitment scam in the state. ED conducted searches at two premises in Kolkata in connection with the SSC recruitment scam case.
The ED said that searches are being carried out at the residence of Partha Chatterjee and at the office of Prasanna Kumar Roy, who is currently in judicial custody. The agency said that Partha Chatterjee had been issued summons on three occasions to appear before the Investigating Officer in the SSC scam case, but he did not appear in response to any of the summons.
It further noted that he was earlier arrested by the ED in July 2022 in connection with the Primary Teachers Recruitment Scam and was granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court in early 2025. According to the ED, multiple cases are under investigation against Partha Chatterjee related to recruitment of primary teachers, SSC assistant teachers, and Group C and D staff. The agency said the searches are part of its ongoing efforts to gather evidence in these cases.
