Vice President CP Radhakrishnan has emphasized that democratic institutions must function through dialogue, debate and constructive discussion. He said that parliamentary discourse should lead to decisions rather than disruptions, stressing the need for informed and respectful engagement. Mr Radhakrishnan said this while addressing the second Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Lecture in New Delhi today. The Vice President said that Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar made efforts to establish inclusivity, guarantee equal rights and safeguarded cultural and educational freedom for all citizens. Mr Radhakrishnan added that Dr Ambedkar showed that true freedom begins with education.
Mr Radhakrishnan underlined that in Dr Ambedkar’s vision, the country’s strength lies in its plurality and diversity, languages, cultures, traditions, and identities. He added that according to Dr Ambedkar, these values are the basic foundation of an inclusive and vibrant democracy.
Mr Radhakrishnan lauded the government for making special efforts to honour the life and legacy of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar. He noted the development of the Panch-Teerth which are the five important sites associated with his life and work at Mhow, London, Nagpur, Delhi and Mumbai. Mr Radhakrishnan added that these sacred places not only serve as memorials but as centres of inspiration for future generations.
