Decline in country’s unemployment rate from 5.6% to 5.2%

 
India’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.2 per cent in July 2025, down from 5.6 per cent in June, for individuals aged 15 years and above. According to Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) monthly labour force and unemployment data, the unemployment rate for female was at 5.1 per cent while the male UR stood at 5.3 per cent. The unemployment rate for both female and male of age 15 years and above, during the April to June period of current fiscal stood at 5.4 per cent. The overall rural UR was lower at 4.8 per cent compared to the UR of 6.8 per cent observed for the urban areas in first quarter.
Meanwhile, Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) which is an estimate of the number of people actively engaged in the workforce, in Current Weekly Status (CWS) among persons of age 15 years and above was 54.9 per cent last month as compared to 54.2 per cent during June this year. During last month, LFPR in rural areas and urban areas was 56.9 per cent and 50.7 per cent, for persons of the same age group. 
The LFPR in CWS for April to June period was 55 per cent, with 57.1 per cent in rural areas and 50.6 per cent in urban areas.
