The festival of colours, Dol Jatra, is being celebrated across West Bengal today with immense enthusiasm. Since early morning, people of all ages, especially children, have hit the streets to smear each other with abir (colored powder).
The celebrations hold deep spiritual significance in the holy abodes of Nabadwip, Mayapur, and Shantipur, where the Dol festival of Lord Krishna is being observed with grand rituals. Devotees began the day with Naam Sankirtan (devotional chanting) and Nagar Parikrama (processions) through the streets. Following the traditional ‘Holika Dahan’ held yesterday, Nabadwip Gaudiya Math is marking the occasion as the birth anniversary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with special prayers and religious discourses.
Similar festivities are underway at Belur Math, as well as the ISKCON temples in Mayapur and Kolkata, where thousands of devotees have gathered to participate in the joyous celebration of faith, music, and color.
