Dhaka Court Sentences Former PM Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, and MP Tulip Siddiq in Purbachal Plot Case

A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s daughter and British MP Tulip Siddiq to varying jail terms in a case linked to the alleged misuse of power in securing a 10-katha government plot in the capital’s Purbachal area. Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 delivered the verdict.

Sheikh Hasina-already sentenced to death in a separate crimes against humanity case-received five years’ imprisonment in the Purbachal plot case. Her sister Sheikh Rehana was awarded seven years, while Tulip Siddiq was sentenced to two years in jail. The court also imposed a Taka 1 lakh fine on each of the three, with a default penalty of six months’ imprisonment. In addition, 14 other accused were sentenced to five years’ imprisonment each and fined as part of the same verdict.

The case, which centers on allegations of abusing state authority to illegally secure prime government land, is one of several ongoing investigations targeting key figures of the former administration.
