Defence Ministry signs Rs 4,666 crore contracts for procurement of CQB Carbine and Heavy Weight Torpedoes

Ministry of Defence today signed contracts worth 4 thousand 666 crore rupees for the procurement of Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbine and Heavy Weight Torpedoes in New Delhi. This includes a contract worth 2 thousand 770 crore rupees with Bharat Forge Ltd and PLR Systems Pvt Ltd. to procure over 4 lakhs Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Carbine.

The procurement of CQB Carbine will help to equip the Indian Army and the Indian Navy with world-class lethality, replacing legacy systems with cutting-edge indigenous technology under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. Another contract worth 1 thousand 896 crore rupees has been signed with WASS Submarine Systems S.R.L., Italy, for the procurement of 48 Heavy Weight Torpedoes along with associated equipment for Kalvari Class Submarines (P-75) of the Indian Navy.

The acquisition of torpedoes will help to enhance the combat capability of the six Kalvari Class submarines. The delivery will commence from April 2028 and will be completed by early 2030. Torpedoes have significant operational capabilities and advanced technological features.

The contracts underline the Government’s commitment to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Navy through the induction of niche technologies and advanced capabilities weapons. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh was also present on the occasion.
