Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today said that personalities like Late Lieutenant General SK Sinha are an inspiration to the government for its clear and firm policy on issues related to the country’s sovereignty. He said this while virtually addressing the Lieutenant General SK Sinha Memorial Lecture in New Delhi.
Mr Singh today paid tributes to Lieutenant General SK Sinha, commending his unwavering loyalty and dedication towards the nation. He appreciated Lieutenant General SK Sinha for striving to provide the Indian Army with modern thinking and institutional strength during his appointments.
On the occasion, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said that Lieutenant General Sinha believed that national security cannot be viewed as the responsibility of the armed forces alone. Highlighting that warfare is becoming increasingly complex, spanning space, cyber, information and cognitive domains, General Chauhan emphasised that the need for scholar-soldiers and thinking generals is far greater than before.
Urging the Armed Forces personnel to draw lessons from the officer’s tenures in both civil and military space, the CDS said that the senior leadership must build a culture where professional military education, debate and integrity are as valued as gallantry.
Lieutenant General Sinha was one of the most outstanding generals of the Army. He was a World War II veteran who had served in Burma and Indonesia in the last stages of the war. He also served as the Jammu and Kashmir Governor and led the first batch of Indian troops who entered Jammu and Kashmir when Pakistan raiders invaded in 1947.
