India-US seal landmark 10-year defence framework in Kuala Lumpur

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth in Kuala Lumpur today, reflecting ongoing defence-level engagement between India and the US.

The meeting follows External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 27, covering bilateral relations, regional developments, and global issues. Jaishankar described the talks as an opportunity to deepen the India-US partnership. The high-level interactions coincide with ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations.

Earlier, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasised that India will not rush into agreements or accept terms that restrict its trading choices, highlighting the need for trust, long-term ties, and sustainable frameworks in global commerce. These engagements underline India’s strategy of balancing defence, diplomacy, and economic interests in its partnership with the US.
