Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stressed the need for real-time preparedness to meet both internal and external security challenges. Addressing the India Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Singh said the Defence Forces must remain ready to respond to address multidimensional security threats. He highlighted that challenges in today’s time are more dynamic rather than static. The Minister also emphasised the need to integrate automated response systems. He also said that electronic warfare has become a ground reality these days.
Underlining that maritime security remains a significant challenge, Mr Singh said that India’s coastal boundary is huge and the danger is also equally huge. He further highlighted that with the advancement of technologies, especially drones and surveillance, maritime security has been enhanced. The Minister noted that maritime threats have become increasingly complex and multidimensional, with challenges such as narcotics trafficking, smuggling, illegal trade, arms trafficking, and human trafficking.
The Minister further lauded the Coast Guard’s crucial role in addressing maritime security threats and managing disaster situations. He said the Coast Guard consistently serves as the first line of response. Mr Singh also urged the Indian Coast Guard not to limit its role to routine surveillance, but also to closely monitor regional developments. He emphasised that the Coast Guard plays a vital role in ensuring both internal and external security.
