The deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Srilanka Coast has intensified into the cyclonic storm Ditwah. According to the Regional Met Department, Southern Region, the storm is located at 700 km south southeast of Chennai and 610 km south east of Puducherry.
It is likely to continue to move north northwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal. It is likely to reach over Southwest Bay of Bengal off North Tamilnadu and adjoining coastal areas of South Andhra Pradesh. The storm is likely to bring heavy rains beginning today to the Delta districts for the next 24 hours. The intensity of the rains is expected to subsequently become extremely heavy on Saturday and Sunday over a few places in delta districts and certain interior districts.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in Northern districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Ranipet Districts.
