Union Coal Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy has said construction of the Railway Manufacturing Unit at Warangal is on track for completion next year. Describing the RMU as a ‘game-changing project’ for the region, Mr Reddy said that construction work is progressing as per schedule with speed and scale. He inspected the site and reviewed the progress of various works. The unit is spread over 160 acres, and the first phase was taken up at an investment of 521 crore rupees.
The Minister added that sustainable methods and advanced technology are being used to construct the world-class facility, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to a modern and environmentally responsible railway ecosystem. The facility is expected to initially manufacture state-of-the-art Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) rakes of 16-20 cars to enhance short- and medium-distance train travel across the country. He added that the RMU is expected to strengthen the railway sector, generate large-scale employment for Warangal’s youth, and boost ancillary industries in the region.
