Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia says 5G services available in 99.9 per cent districts

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that 5G service, which was launched in 2022, is presently available in 99.9 per cent of the districts in the country.

 

Replying to the question hours in Lok Sabha, the Minister said that the total number of Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) has increased from 6,49,834 to 31,44,559.  BTS is a piece of equipment that facilitates wireless communication between user equipment and a network.

 

The Minister informed the House that the mobile coverage in villages has improved from 90.68 per cent in 2014 to 98.43 per cent as of October 2025, covering 6,34,019 villages in the country. He said under the BharatNet project, 2.14 lakh Gram Panchayats have been made service-ready. He said 135 international delegates from 31 countries participated in Bharat Telecom 2025 to explore investment and partnership opportunities.
