Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Madhu Sudan Sankar visited Mumbai airport to review the situation arising from the IndiGo operational crisis and its impact on passengers.
Talking to Media, Mr Sankar said late Monday night the Ministry decided to assess conditions across airports to understand the extent of passenger inconvenience. Meetings were held with all key stakeholders, including airport operators, Air Traffic Control (ATC) managers and airline representatives. He said the situation is now under control.
Sharing details, the Joint Secretary informed that till Monday, a total of 905 flights were delayed, due to IndiGo flight cancellations leaving 40,789 passengers affected, while 2,66,567 passengers were directly impacted overall. He said major domestic routes affected from Mumbai included Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa and Lucknow.
The Joint Secretary said he personally inspected various areas of the airport, including baggage handling zones, and interacted with passengers along with his team. He emphasised, significant improvements have been observed, especially today. He added that to avoid overcrowding at airports, passengers are being informed about flight status six hours in advance.
