Chief Justice Surya Kant addresses Judicial Corruption mentioned in NCERT textbook

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant today objected to references to judicial corruption in the NCERT’s Class 8 social science textbook and said the judiciary’s integrity would not be allowed to be defamed.

A three-judge bench of the CJI and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi took suo motu cognisance of the content after senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi raised the issue for urgent consideration.

The textbook lists corruption, case backlog and shortage of judges among challenges before the judicial system. The bench said the matter concerned the entire institution. Justice Bagchi observed that constitutional integrity and the basic structure doctrine were missing from its contents.
