The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) organised the second edition of the coastal cyclothon titled Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026 this morning. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai virtually flagged off the cyclothon from New Delhi.
The 25-day Cyclothon is part of the commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram, which will continue till the 22nd of next month. This year’s theme for the Cyclothon is Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rai lauded the contribution and role of CISF in providing security and safety during challenging times in the country. The Minister stated that the CISF has been designated as a recognised security force under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. He also highlighted the crucial role of the CISF in port-related development, maritime trade, and strengthening coastal infrastructure.
The Minister said that through this cyclothon, the CISF aims to engage with all security stakeholders and keep coastal communities at the forefront. Mr Rai said that the main objective of this second edition of the cyclois to celebrate patriotism and national consciousness on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram.
Mr Rai informed that two CISF cyclist teams will simultaneously begin their journey from Bakhali in West Bengal in the east and Lakhpat Fort in Gujarat in the west. He added that the teams will cover a distance of approximately 65 hundred kilometres, culminating at Cochin in Kerala. Mr Rai stated that a total of 148 CISF personnel, including 65 women, will participate in the cyclothon.
The initiative aims at strengthening coastal security awareness, national unity and community participation. The Cyclothon will also promote fitness, discipline and healthy lifestyles, particularly among youth and coastal communities.
